Jocelyn & Daniela at the Pacific

yo we are in Damascus VA, after having climbed 3 mountains. We are trying to work on a budget of 10 dollars a day. So far we are doing less than that! but soon we will run out of cliff bars and have to buy a lot of food. Last night we stayed behind a beautiful log-cabin church in Konnarock, VA. A man named Buck gave us permission to pitch our tent behind the place. The church isn't used for services anymore, but you can have weddings there! 50$! Buck was REALLLLY nice, 81 years old, living with a cat. He brought Daniela Aloe for her sun poisoning and bought us breakfast in the morning. We bathed and washed our clothes in a freezing creek coming straight off the mountains. The Virginia mountains are sooo beautiful. The curvy mountain roads go alongside the winding creeks. Its great.
we've been eating so many cliff bars, Little Debbie fig bars, eggs, tomatoes, beans, salt!!! Its luxurious.

weve also met a few friends along the way. A british couple named Micki and Julie. We run into them a few times a day so we don't feel so alone! We also met a big family who is biking across together!!! so cute.

one day we saw these silver war planes zip over our heads. we were in farm country and all of a sudden we heard this terrible sound, like the sky was splitting in two pieces. then after the sound we saw these planes, but not at all where we had heard the roaring. it was kind of scary. We imagined it might be like that in war times... not to be dark or anything.

So right now we're in Damascus, which is this cute little town tucked between these big green lush mountains (that we biked over). Actually one of the best experiences yet was zooming down the mountain into town super speed. We use arms to brake (which means we raise them and the wind resistance slows us down). So in Damascus there are TONS of hikers. They're everywhere, crawling out of the woodwork. The locals don't really like them because they partay! We're in the library here now. we can't figure out how to upload photos, but i promise we have some seriously GLAM shots (by the way we haven't taken a shower in 4 days).

we are hoping to make it to the small town of Council today (pop= 900). It is several peaks away, so who knows.

we'll check in soon and hopefully figure out a way to upload photos.

  4. Hi Sweeties,
Great to be able to read more description of your travails and travel and how upbeat you seem 2 be-so enthralled with the sheer beauty as you deal with steep -not gradual- climbs, sunburn & cysts, the same food over and over, etc., etc., etc! What great travelers you are! Soon you will be able to bike Nepal, imagine that one! : ) Am also delighted to read that you are not alone and have some Brit company (beats GaGa...), and the family?????Too sweet! Toute suite, I will send you supplies-on Tuesday- any special requests? Sunburn lotion?. Please continue to send detailed descriptions of your journeys-it will be my own way to finally get to cross our beautiful country.
    Much love,
    Mom/aka Lark
